Welcome to Just Outside DC. We’re like the Ben & Jerry’s of local news. Delivering the scoop — one email at a time (brain-freeze not included).
Today’s factoid of the day is: Fredric Baur invented the Pringles can. When he passed away in 2008, his ashes were buried in one.
RAPPAHANNOCK COUNTY
This power outage was nutty.
On Tuesday morning, a power outage hit over 2,000 people in Rappahannock County.
The culprit?
A squirrel that had gotten into some electrical substation equipment.
Schools had to dismiss students early due to the lack of power. The utility company then rerouted electricity from alternative substations in the area to get the electricity back.
A spokesperson from Rappahannock Electric Cooperative confirmed that the squirrel did not survive 😔

One of our readers, Lance, snapped this iPhone video of a groundhog eating the dandelions from his yard.
Lance gets free weed removal and the groundhog gets a snack. Talk about a win-win.
