Today’s factoid of the day is: Walt Disney used to draw cartoons for his local barber in exchange for haircuts 🐭

THE BIG IDEA

Is your flight still canceled? Blame last week’s global glitch.

Frustrated On The Internet GIF by Offline Granny!

Ever had one of those days where everything just... stops working?

Well, Virginia (and pretty much everyone else in the world) just had one of those on a massive scale.

But here's the kicker: it wasn't a cyber attack or some nefarious hacking scheme.

Nope — it was just a good old-fashioned software update gone wrong.

The culprit: A faulty update deployed by cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike to computers running Microsoft Windows.

Here's how the outage affected Virginia last week:

DMV: Closed — sorry, no driver's licenses for you.

Airports: Reagan and Dulles dealt with massive delays and cancellations, some of which are still affecting Virginians.

Metro: Back on track (literally), but their website was still down.

The real question is: How did we become so dependent on a handful of tech providers? It's like putting all our eggs in one digital basket... and then dropping the basket.

Reader Restaurant Recommendation: One of our readers, Riley, recommends you guys check out Chit Chaat Cafe.

It’s Indian takeout, inside a gas station convenience store.

We actually tried it ourselves once while in Vienna and… it was delicious. Now, I can sleep easy at night knowing there’s a place I can sip mango lassi while I’m pumping gas 🥭
