šŸ¦ People in Arlington are really smart

Welcome to Just Outside DC ā€” the Scorpions of local news. Weā€™re gonna rock you like a hurricane!

Todayā€™s factoid of the day is: Before Goosebumps, R.L. Stine wrote the jokes for Bazooka Joe gum wrappers.

THE BIG IDEA

Arlington is the #2 most educated city in the United States.

This is just unfair at this point.

About a month ago, we covered how Arlington was recognized as the fittest city in America for the sixth consecutive year.

ā€¦and just a few days ago, Forbes ranked the top 100 cities in America by education level ā€” and Arlington came in second.

By the numbers:

  • 78% of Arlingtonians (is that even a word by the way?) aged 25 or older hold a bachelorā€™s degree.

  • 42% of people in that 25+ crowd hold graduate degrees.

Atlanta came in first, but second place is very respectable when you consider how big some of the other cities in the top 10 are, not to mention their proximity many more major universities (Iā€™m looking at you, San Diego).

Plus, these stats are just a couple of new feathers in Arlingtonā€™s already loaded cap.

Last year Arlington was the #6 most popular destination for millennials ā€” and you can bet your brown flip flops most of these were young professionals with nice jobs lined up.

Arlington is like when you find out a famous actor is also incredibly nice in person, AND is married to a supermodel. Young people there are in shape, intelligent, and despite an entire neighborhood being named Ballston, the gender ratio is a solid 1 to 1.

(Note to selfā€¦ move to Arlington.)

Do You Know Why Smells Linger On Activewear Fabrics?

Itā€™s because activewear uses tightly woven synthetic fabrics to wick away sweat while you workout.

Unfortunately, traditional detergents use fabric softeners that can coat over sweat, dead skin, & bacteria trapping them inside these fabrics.

So once your body starts heating upā€¦ the smell inevitably returns.

ACTIVE solves this by using a scientifically formulated, all natural enzyme blend to break down these trapped contaminants once and for all!

Finally a solution to your smelly activewear!

You may have noticed that youā€™re reading this on a day that isnā€™t Friday ā€” which is the when we usually send out this newsletter.

Thatā€™s because starting today, weā€™re experimenting with publishing the newsletter 5 days a week.

Thatā€™s Monday thru Friday, with weekends off (we like going to those live events too, ya know!)

Love it? Hate it? Let us know what you think using the poll at the bottom of this post! Weā€™re fueled by caffeine and your feedback.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programmingā€¦

Reader Restaurant Recommendation

One of our readers, Jason, recommends you guys check out Charcoal Kabob in Herndon. This place has been serving up massive portions of Middle Eastern and South Asian food for over 30 years now.

Jason says his familyā€™s go to is the chapli kabob, chicken karahi, and plenty of naan and mango lassi to go around.

LIVE EVENT LOWDOWN

Normally, we'd list some live music shows, festivals, or other events happening around NoVA in this section.

But it turns out most venues donā€™t schedule anything for Mondaysā€¦ unless you count half-priced appetizers and $3 bottles of Natty Light at your local Applebee's as a "live event" (hey man, no judgement).

Don't worry though, we spent all of last night combing through our usual sources. We can safely say that this weekendā€™s schedule is absolutely packed.

We hope youā€™ll bear with us until Friday ā€” itā€™ll be worth the wait, promise!

Prince Charles and Princess Diana visited the Springfield Mall in 1985. Hereā€™s a photo of them checking out jewelry at JCPenney. You can read more about their royal visit to the DMV here.

By the way, if youā€™ve got any cool/funny/interesting pics or vids from around the NoVA area, feel free to send them our way via email or Instagram. Weā€™ll show ā€˜em in the next newsletter!

TY!
